Frequently asked questions
Free insider trading & congressional stock trade tracker · figures as of October 7, 2026
What is Whale Atlas?
Whale Atlas is a free website that shows U.S. corporate insider trades (SEC Form 4) and U.S. House and Senate members’ stock trades, pulled directly from SEC EDGAR, the House Clerk and the Senate’s electronic disclosure (eFD) system, with a link to every original filing. The Home page ranks where the biggest disclosed money is moving: the largest insider and congressional purchases and sales.
Is Whale Atlas free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, no sign-up, no paywall, no advertising and no data sales. Every page, list and filing link is open to everyone.
Where does the data come from?
Directly from the official sources. Insider trades come from SEC Form 4 filings on SEC EDGAR, and congressional trades come from periodic transaction reports published by the Clerk of the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate’s eFD system. Whale Atlas does not copy data from other services. Each trade links to the government’s original filing. See public data & independence.
How much data does Whale Atlas cover?
As of October 7, 2026, Whale Atlas tracks 199,342 insider transactions across 5,138 companies filed since March 26, 2026, and 5,319 stock trades disclosed by 104 House members (latest filing October 5, 2026), and 1,840 by 31 senators (latest filing October 1, 2026).
How quickly do new trades appear?
Whale Atlas checks SEC EDGAR for new insider filings every few minutes and rebuilds its rankings as soon as the data changes; each list shows when it was last updated. Remember the legal reporting delays: insiders generally must file Form 4 within two business days after a trade, while members of Congress must report within 30 days of being notified of a trade and no later than 45 days after it. Some filings arrive late.
How can I see what stocks members of Congress are buying?
Open Home → Congress Trades → Large buys to see the largest recent House and Senate stock purchases, ranked by disclosed amount. Every disclosed trade is on All Congress filings, and each member has a profile on the People page (for example, Nancy Pelosi).
How can I see the biggest insider buying this month?
The Home page defaults to ranking companies with insider purchases filed in the last 30 days by Signal Score — the score itself looks back up to 180 days, weighted toward the most recent trades (see the methodology), and shows how many purchases were made and who made the largest one. You can also sort by total dollar amount or by the most recent filing, or browse every insider filing.
Why are some filings left out of totals?
Filings sometimes contain mistakes, such as impossible prices or duplicated rows. Whale Atlas automatically checks every insider transaction and leaves unverifiable values out of totals and rankings; currently 3.4% of open-market or private insider trades (2,332 of 68,247) are excluded. The original filings stay visible and labeled. See the methodology.
What is the Signal Score?
An experimental 0–100 summary of a company’s disclosed insider buying only — purchase value, how many distinct insiders bought, whether executives were involved, and repeat or cluster buying. It does not use price history or congressional activity (those feed a separate, private research score). It has not been validated as a predictor of returns and is not advice; see not financial advice and the methodology.
Is anything on Whale Atlas financial advice?
No. Whale Atlas is an informational publication of public filings. Nothing on it is investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Read the full notice.
How is Whale Atlas different from other insider and congressional trading trackers?
It combines insider and congressional trades in one free place with no sign-up, sources everything directly from the government, links every trade to its original filing, and filters unverifiable values out of totals. See the comparison for a dated, factual overview.
Can I share Whale Atlas pages?
Yes. Every stock on the Home page has a Share button that creates a link with a preview image for Reddit, X, Discord and messages. Any page can be linked or quoted with credit to Whale Atlas.
